Bhoomi Vinod Patil was reportedly playing in the balcony on the third floor when a concrete portion of the common balcony collapsed
In a tragic incident, a four-year-old girl lost her life after a portion of a balcony slab collapsed and fell on her in Virar on Tuesday night.
The incident took place around 8 pm in a four-storey building in Nityanand Nagar area of Virar East.
The girl, identified as Bhoomi Vinod Patil, is believed to have been playing in the balcony on the third floor when a concrete portion of the common balcony collapsed. The debris purportedly hit her before a portion of it came crashing on the ground floor.
Following the collapse, Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation (VVMC) and fire brigade personnel launched a search operation for Bhoomi, who was initially feared trapped in the debris.
Almost three hours after the search commenced, officials managed to recover her body. It was later sent for a post-mortem.
According to officials, the building was illegal and in a dilapidated condition. Around 80 families resided in the building, all of whom were evacuated after the slab collapse.
Meanwhile, Virar police have registered a case of accidental death.
