60-year-old from Shivaji Park tests positive for coronavirus, building sealed
A 60-year-old man from Shivaji Park with no foreign travel history has become a victim of coronavirus after testing positive for COVID-19 on Saturday.
This is the first reported case from the Dadar area, which houses lakhs of people across hundreds of residential buildings and chawls.
According to officials, the patient in question has been currently admitted to PD Hinduja National Hospital and Medical Research Centre.
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) authorities have already sealed the building and started sanitising the structure.
Officials have taken samples from his family members and sent them for testing. A team is also looking into others who might have come in contact with the patient.
Meanwhile, other high-risk residents of the building have been home quarantined.
The patient reportedly runs a printing press in Prabhadevi and employs several people from the Worli-Koliwada area, one of the hotspots for the infection in the city. It is believed that he got the infection from one of his employees.
Maharashtra has witnessed 537 coronavirus cases as of Saturday morning, of which over 280 are from Mumbai alone. The infection has claimed 26 lives in the state so far.
