Alert RPF constable awarded for saving woman passenger at Mumbra station
An alert Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable helped save a woman passenger who fell while trying to board a local at Mumbai’s Mumbra station on Wednesday morning.
According to officials, the incident took place around 8:15 am when the middle-aged woman was trying to board the compartment of a crowded ladies special CSMT-bound train from Mumbra’s platform number 2.
RPF Constable Hasan Patel was tasked with platform bandobast and for attending handicap coaches at the time. While on duty, he saw the woman trying to board the local.
Moments later, he noticed that the commuter had been unable to board and on the verge of falling outside the now moving train.
Patel subsequently, without any regard for his personal safety, rushed to her rescue and managed to pull her to safety.
The passenger, identified as Sharda (45), was saved by Patel’s timely assistance and did not sustain any serious injuries in the incident.
On Thursday, Patel was rewarded with an appreciation certificate and cash reward of Rs 1,000 by Central Railway for his exemplary alertness and presence of mind.
