Ceiling slab at KEM hospital collapses, 2 dialysis patients injured
Two patients sustained minor injuries after a part of the ceiling at the dialysis department of Parel’s KEM Hospital collapsed on them on Wednesday morning.
The incident took place around 8:45 am yesterday while the patients were waiting for treatment.
Dr. Avinash Supe, Dean, KEM Hospital, confirmed that the patients were immediately shifted to another ward following the incident and that their condition was stable.
“Two patients sustained minor injuries after the plaster collapsed in dialysis department. Their condition is stable,” he said.
Dr. Supe added that hospital authorities were temporarily shifting part of the dialysis unit into another area while the existing section was being repaired.
The plaster work is expected to complete in the next three to four days.
In the past, both the civic body and the hospital’s management have been criticised for the shoddy infrastructure at KEM, one of the biggest tertiary care hospitals in Mumbai.
