Crime branch raids ‘The Thai Villa’ spa in Vile Parle, busts sex racket
The Mumbai Crime Branch busted a sex racket during a raid at a spa in Vile Parle and rescued six girls of Thai nationality.
Following a tip-off from a source, claiming that a prostitution racket was operating in the garb of a Thai spa in the area, a team from Unit-9 of Crime Branch raided ‘The Thai Villa’ spa around 8:30 pm on Saturday.
During the raid, the police discovered that owners Shura Khan and Sumit Singhania, in connivance with the manager of the spa, were running a prostitution racket.
The police said that all six victims were of Thailand nationality and residing in the country on tourist and business visa. Cops also recovered Rs 1.23 lakh, a laptop, a swipe machine, and some documents during the raid.
The owners were subsequently arrested and a case under the relevant sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act (PITA) was registered at Vile Parle police station.
The rescued girls and the seized property, meanwhile, was handed over to the police. Further investigation in the matter is underway.
The Thai Villa spa, located at Rishi Building on Dixit Road, was reportedly inaugurated by Bollywood actor Raveena Tandon in 2018.
