Thane BJP leader Gurunath Lasne falls victim to killer potholes, dies in road mishap at Bhiwandi
Gurunath Waman Lasne, the vice-president of Thane district’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unit, died on Monday evening after a bus hit a pothole and rammed into his car near Saravali village in Bhiwandi.
According to Kongaon police, the mishap took place around 6 pm, when Lasne was travelling to his home in Bhiwandi’s Parivali.
The accident took place when the driver of a mini-bus, travelling on the other side of the road towards Mumbai, lost control of his vehicle after hitting a pothole near Om Sai Garden in Saravali pada.
The bus subsequently toppled to the other side of the road, hitting Lasne’s WagonR. After impact, both vehicles fell in the ditch at the side of the road.
Lasne suffered severe head injuries and died on the spot. Some occupants of the bus, which included around 8-10 company workers, also sustained injuries.
The bus driver, however, fled the spot before cops arrived.
Police have registered a case against the absconding driver under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 304(A),184 and 279, and have started searching for him.
An official from Kongaon police admitted that the road near Saravali village is littered with potholes, and has witnessed several mishaps since monsoon.
