Thief who robbed 66 lakh cash at gunpoint nabbed in Andheri

Mumbai police have arrested a 38-year-old wanted in connection with a Rs 66 lakh robbery in neighbouring Gujarat.

The accused, Pravin alias Raju Suresh Sawant, was arrested from Andheri MIDC by Unit-8 of Mumbai crime branch when he had come to meet a friend during the weekend.

According to officials, Sawant was involved in a robbery in Gujarat’s Mehsana in December last year.

During the heist, Sawant and his accomplices cornered and robbed an angadiya (courier) employee at gunpoint while he was travelling in a bus with cash.

The company filed a complaint after the robbery, following which a probe was launched to trace the culprits.
