5 godowns gutted in major fire at Mangaldas Market in Kalbadevi
A major fire broke out inside the Mangaldas Market in Kalbadevi area of South Mumbai early morning on Friday.
The incident was reported around 6:20 am to the fire department, when a godown inside the old market got engulfed in flames. The market is located near Jama Masjid on Sheikh Memon Street at Lohar Chawl in Kalbadevi.
According to preliminary information, the fire spread to five ground floor structures inside the market area.
By 7:35 am, the fire had escalated to level 3, following which 8 fire engines, 7 water tankers and a breathing apparatus van was pressed into service.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported. However, initial reports suggest that five godowns were severely damaged and goods destroyed.
An official with the disaster management cell of BMC confirmed that the fire was under control around 9:40 am. The cause of fire is still not known.
