Police have arrested a software engineer for allegedly creating a fake Twitter account in the name of Sara Tendulkar, daughter of Sachin Tendulkar, and uploading objectionable content against NCP chief Sharad Pawar.
The accused, Nitin Shisode, was arrested on Tuesday by the cyber police, Akbar Pathan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Cyber Crime) said.
During interrogation, it emerged that the Andheri resident also created fake Twitter accounts of some Bollywood personalities.
Cyber Crime cell sleuths seized a laptop, two mobile phones and routers from Shisode’s residence.
The 39-year-old who is in computer and Internet-related business, has been booked for impersonation, cheating, and defamation under IPC and the IT Act. He was produced before a local court and remanded to police custody till tomorrow.
In October last year, there was a tweet from Sara Tendulkar’s fake account, containing derogatory remarks about Pawar, a police official told ANI. The tweets were made from Twitter handle @sarasachin_rt, which was subsequently suspended.
The cricket legend also took to the microblogging platform to clear the air. “I reiterate the fact that my children Arjun & Sara are not on twitter. We request @Twitter to remove all such accounts at the earliest,” he had tweeted.
Meanwhile, following a complaint from Tendulkar’s personal assistant, an offence under relevant sections was registered by the Cyber Police.
Tendulkar’s aide said in the complaint that somebody created a fake Twitter account of Sara Tendulkar, who is studying abroad.
Cops traced the IP address from which the comment was posted to Shisode’s house in Military Road in Andheri’s Marol area.
The arrest comes a month after a 32-year-old man was arrested for allegedly disturbing and harassing Sara over phone. He was arrested from Mahisadal area of East Midnapore district in West Bengal.
