Cops arrest domestic help who robbed doctor’s house, fled with items worth 62 lakh
Mumbai police have arrested the domestic helper who, along with his friend, had robbed a doctor’s house in Amboli and fled with gold and other items worth over Rs 62 lakh.
The accused, Sanjeev Debu Ray, was arrested from Chandigarh on Monday and his friend, Anil Ramchandra Ray, was nabbed from Mohali the same day. Both were brought to Mumbai on Tuesday.
“The domestic helper, Sanjeev Debu Ray with the help of another friend, Anil Ramchandra Ray, looted the house of Surendra Singh Duggal on July 13,” said Ganesh Shinde, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP).
The duo had robbed the house when Dr. Duggal and his family were in Bangkok to attend a wedding. The family returned to the city on July 16 and filed an FIR against the house help the same day.
“The owner had appointed him eight days back as domestic help. They robbed the place when the owner went to Bangkok. And after the robbery, they fled from here to Chandigarh where a police team with ACP Rajendra Chauhan caught the thieves along with stolen items,” Shinde added.
The accused had fled with jewellery, imported wristwatches, perfumes, and electronics worth over Rs 62 lakh. Mumbai police managed to recover the entire loot and returned it to the rightful owner.
“People should do a police verification before hiring someone as domestic helpers so that incidents like these can be avoided,” the official said.
Both men have been taken into custody and further investigation is underway.
