Despite scoring 99.8%, SSC topper fails to secure college seat in first merit list
A SSC topper failed to secure a seat in any college, after the first merit list for FYJC admission was announced, despite scoring scoring 99.8% in the board exams. All due to an ‘unexplainable’ technical error in her admission form.
On Monday, after the first merit list was announced, the girl was shocked to see a message on the online portal that read ‘you have not been allotted a seat’. Realising that something was amiss, the student quickly made enquiry calls to the university to know if there has been a technical error.
Upon enquiring, the office of the Deputy Director of Education in Mumbai informed the student that her admission form was filled on June 10 and 11. However, it was reset after 5 days. After the reset, the girl failed to fill the form again.
An official from the education department denied any error on the part of the University and told TOI, “The student’s form must have been reset by the school. This could have been done on her request. Since the form was never filled up again, she has not been allotted a seat.”
The student’s family, who had filled the form with assistance from her school in Kalyan, questioned the school authorities about it. But, even the school denied any error on their part.
As a result, the student will now have to wait till July 15, when the entire online process is over. Post that, she will have to apply to colleges offline where she will be allotted a seat subject to availability.
While the girl’s parents are certain that their daughter will be able to secure admission later on, they are disappointed over the fact that she might miss out on the college of her choice in spite of having the requisite marks.
