Heavy showers expected in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane in next 48 hours
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted spells of heavy rainfall in Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai over the next 48 hour period.
Mumbai and its suburbs are expected to receive between moderate and high rainfall, with some areas expected to receive heavy showers. There is also a high-tide warning issued in Mumbai on Friday, 1:38 pm (14.93 ft).
Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) and Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) have also been alerted about the possibility of heavy rains in their jurisdictions and asked to take requisite actions.
The forecast for all three cities in next 48 hours is cloudy with intermittent rains, albeit with a possibility of heavy showers. The forecast is expected to last through Friday and continue till Saturday.
The respective civic bodies have all been tasked with the responsibility of maintaining adequate rescue staff throughout the period and closely monitor flood-prone areas in their respective jurisdictions. In most low lying areas, water pumps have already been stationed.
While the rains continue to lash the city, citizens are also advised to avoid visiting flood-prone areas if possible.
