Maharashtra ATS arrests Mumbai’s triple blast accused
Maharashtra ATS (Anti Terrorist Squad) on Tuesday arrested an alleged Indian Mujahideen (IM) operator from the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport.
The accused, identified as Zainul Abedin, was wanted by the National Investigative Agency in connection with the 2011 Mumbai triple blast.
The triple blast, which took place on July 13, 2011 at Opera House, Zaveri Bazaar and Dadar, claimed 130 lives and left hundreds injured. Abedin is also suspected to have been supplying explosives to IM operators across the country.
As per reports, the state’s ATS had received prior information about Abedin’s visit to his native Bhatkal via Mumbai. The ATS had laid a trap at Mumbai airport before his flight had landed and arrested him immediately after the landing.
Abedin is currently in the custody of Maharashtra ATS unit.
