Mother-daughter hawkers duo assault on-duty civic official in Kalyan
Police have booked two women hawkers for allegedly assaulting an on-duty civic official in Kalyan while he was on a routine drive.
Officials from the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) had gone to Kalyan market to take action against unauthorized hawkers in the area when one of them was assaulted by the mother and daughter duo.
According to an official, the anti-hawker team of KDMC was on their routine drive to keep a check on the hawkers and ensure no one was encroaching upon the road adjacent to the market.
The mother-daughter duo would sell food items in the outside the Kalyan market.
When officials initiated action against the accused, Gulab Dalvi and her daughter Deepali, they started abusing the civic staffers. Following which, one of them assaulted a civic official identified as Santosh Jondhale.
Per the instructions of higher authorities, Jondhale approached Mahatma Phule Chowk police station and filed a complaint against the accused. Police have filed a non-cognizable offence against both the mother and daughter.
This is the second case of assault on KDMC staffer this month. Just two weeks back, another civic official was assaulted by a shopkeeper and his accomplices after being asked to remove the illegal shed placed outside their shop in Kalyan.
The official, Rajesh Petkar, suffered injuries to his head and had to be admitted to Rukminibai hospital in Kalyan. The shopkeeper was subsequently arrested.
