Mumbai to get its first artificial beach by 2019

1. Under the Sustainable Coastal Protection and Management Investment Programme (SCPMIP), Mumbai will get its first artificial beach from Girgaum Chowpatty to the Marine Drive flyover by 2019.
2. The project is a part of Rs 827-crore SCPMIP which seeks to cover around 10 sites in the state, including Marine Drive.
3. The work of extending the Girgaum Chowpatty beach till Marine Drive flyover will be done via the sea, causing no obstruction to the road traffic.
4. If the necessary clearances come as planned, work on the project will commence before 2018 monsoon. Officials claim that the work will take no more than three clear seasons to complete.
5. The Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB) hopes to ready the artificial beach till the Marine Drive flyover by 2019. Later, they plan on extending it further till Nariman Point.
