Passenger commits suicide by jumping in front of metro train at Sakinaka station
In an unfortunate incident, a passenger committed suicide by jumping in front of the metro train at Sakinaka station, bringing the service to an abrupt and partial halt on Sunday morning.
The incident was reported around 10 am today, following which metro services were only running between Ghatkopar and Marol Naka.
At the moment, the identity of the individual who committed suicide is not known.
Metro authorities acknowledged the issue at 11 am and informed passengers about the disruption in service. However, there is no update on when the service is expected to resume.
Owing to a Sunday, there is relatively less crowd travelling via the corridor today. Despite that, hundreds of passengers were left stranded at Marol station.
Back in November 2015, an autorickshaw driver from Gujarat hung himself from his belt in a toilet for disabled people at Andheri metro station. However, this is the first time a passenger has committed suicide by jumping in front of Mumbai’s metro train.
Further details awaited.
Update (11:10 am): Metro services have resumed.
Update (11:45 am): The passenger who committed suicide has been identified as Uday Kumar Prasad (20) from Bihar. The youth jumped in front of a Ghatkopar-bound metro around 10 am.
