Veteran actor Ramesh Bhatkar passes away at 70

Veteran Marathi actor Ramesh Bhatkar passed away on Monday after a long fought battle with cancer. He was 70.
The actor had been suffering from lung cancer since the last one and a half years. He breathed his last at a city hospital.
“He fought bravely as much as he could. But in the last one month, he was in tremendous pain and we all were worried. He was in ICU for the last fifteen days,” actor Jaywant Wadkar was quoted as saying.
His last rites were held at 10.30 pm at Shivaji Park.
Bhatkar was known for his roles in the TV series “Commander”, “Hello Inspector” and “Damini”.
In a career spanning three decades, the actor appeared in a host of mainstream Hindi and Marathi films such as “Aai Pahije”, “Kucch To Hai” and “Bhavesh Joshi Superhero”. He was also a renowned theatre actor.
The thespian had most recently appeared on celluloid in the recently released Bollywood film, “The Accidental Prime Minister”.
Anupam Kher, who had worked with him on the film, took to social media to express his grief.
“Really saddened to know about untimely demise of veteran actor #RameshBhatkar. I had the opportunity to meet him briefly on the sets of #TheAccidentalPrimeMinister. May God rest his soul in peace and give his family the courage to deal with the loss,” Kher posted.
Bhatkar is survived by his wife Mridula, a Bombay High Court judge, and son Harshavardhan.
