Woman stabbed to death by 19-year-old at Andheri FOB, cops suspect case of one-sided love

A 27-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed to death by a teenager at the Andheri railway station foot-over bridge late Wednesday night.
The incident took place around 10 pm when the victim, Annabibi Shaikh, was walking on the FOB. Two men approached her and stabbed her repeatedly with a sharp weapon before trying to flee from the spot.
“Two men stabbed Annabibi Shaikh (27) on the railway foot-over bridge outside the Andheri station around 10 pm,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Paramjit Singh Dahiya.
Bystanders informed DN Nagar police about the incident, following which officials reached the spot and rushed Shaikh to Cooper Hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival. The body was subsequently sent for post-mortem.
A passerby also nabbed one of the attackers and handed him over to cops. Prima facie, police suspect the attack to be a case of one-sided love.
Meanwhile, a murder case has been registered by DN Nagar police and the accused, identified as Kismat Shaikh (19), is being questioned to understand the motive behind the attack.
Further investigation into the case and the search for the second accused is underway.
The victim hailed from Jharkhand, same as the accused, and had been employed at ‘Gold Mini’ bar in Andheri.
The incident raises serious questions about the safety of women in the state, which incidentally has witnessed a rise in violent crimes against women in recent years.
According to provisional data compiled by the crime investigation bureau, a total of 32,100 cases of crime against women were registered in 2017 in comparison to the 31,275 in 2016 and 31,126 in 2015.
