10,000 liters of water wasted for minister’s helicopter landing in Latur
Amidst the water crisis in Latur, Revenue minister Eknath Khadse had visited the drought-stricken district on Friday to inaugurate a water supply system. However, the helicopter landing of the BJP minister ended up costing the district 10,000 liters of water. The water was used to ‘ensure smooth landing’ of his helicopter.
According to villagers from Belakund, three to four tankers had lined up outside the make-shift helipad to spray water in order for the minister’s chopper to land. Water was sprayed over the landing area as it acts as a dust suppressant.
In a district with a population of 5 lakhs, where people get water supply only once a month, this wastage of water has now come under public scrutiny.
While Khadse has tried his best to defend the incident claiming that the water was from a near-by filter plant, Amit Deshmukh, a Congress MLA from Latur has said that the administration authorities that made the arrangements should have been more sensitive towards the water wastage.
