Hoax Alert: Fake message about Ajay Devgn’s helicopter mishap viral on social media
Bollywood superstar Ajay Devgn is the latest celebrity to fall victim to a hoax message, purportedly about an alleged helicopter accident at a hill station in Maharashtra.
Over the last few days, messages claiming that the actor’s chartered helicopter met with an accident near Mahabaleshwar have been doing rounds on WhatsApp and social media.
The messages, being circulated in English and Marathi, claim that the actor was in a critical condition following the mishap, while the pilot lost his life. The accident, it adds, took place while the actor was returning after completing a shoot at the hill station.
The unverified message was also picked up by some fan pages, adding fuel to the fire.
However, a senior police official from Mahabaleshwar police station dismissed the incident as a rumour.
“If there had been a situation of Ajay Devgn’s helicopter meeting with an accident or crashing anywhere in Mahabaleshwar or nearby we would have to come to know. We have checked and there is no such incident reported,” he told DNA.
The officials have also launched an investigation to trace the person responsible for spreading the fake news.
“This message was being circulated a week ago also, and it has again started from Sunday. We are trying to ascertain as to who is spreading such fake news and sending forwards about helicopter crash,” he added.
Devgn, meanwhile, made headlines ealier today after the news of his next collaboration with director Luv Ranjan, also starring actor Ranbir Kapoor, broke out.
