Women getting abortions should be punished, says Donald Trump
US Presidential candidate Donald Trump is known to make controversial statements. From building a wall across the US-Mexico border to his anti-Islam comments, Trump’s words are prone to cause an outrage. Unsurprisingly, the business tycoon has come under fire yet again with his latest comment on abortion.
In an interview with MSNBC, Trump was asked if there should be a punishment for getting an abortion to which he replied, “Yes, there has to be some form of punishment for the woman.”
This sparked outrage among women activists as well as other presidential candidates. When asked to comment on it, Hillary Clinton – another Presidential candidate, said this was ‘horrible and telling’.
In a feeble attempt to right the wrongs, Trump tried to clarify that the doctors who perform illegal abortions should be the one to be punished. But the damage had already been done. Back in an interview in 1999 Trump had said he supported abortions and was pro-choice.
