Sairat, Natsamrat among 10 Marathi films to be screened at Film Bazaar 2016
Marathi cinema continues its golden run, with as many as ten films scheduled to screen at the tenth edition of the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) Film Bazaar this year.
Film Bazaar is the largest South Asian film market, which encourages creative and financial collaboration between the South Asian and International film communities.
Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari, popularly referred to as Film City, Mumbai, is collaborating with Film Bazaar, which will be held in Goa from November 20-24.
Critically acclaimed films like ‘Sairat’, ‘Natsamrat’, ‘Half Ticket’, ‘Double Seat’, ‘Halal’, ‘Katyar Kaljat Ghusali’, ‘Bernie’, ‘Saha Gun’, ‘Daagdi Chaawl’ and ‘Koti’ are the films which will showcased in the Industry Screenings and the Viewing Room sections of the Bazaar.
The films have been approved and chosen by the selection committee of the Department of Cultural Affairs.
While producers of these Marathi films will take part in the Producers’ Lab, Film City will also be showcasing a variety of shoot locations in a Film Office at the Bazaar this year.
“Today Marathi films are watched by people who don’t even speak Marathi. The reach of Marathi cinema is increasing day by day. But still, producers of Marathi films are not earning substantial profits. Our aim at Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari is to facilitate complete growth of the Marathi film industry,” Shekhar Channe, Managing Director at Film City, Mumbai.
“To accomplish this goal we have decided to get ten Marathi films to NFDC’s Film Bazaar as it is a perfect platform to get these films to national and international producers notice. We are very excited to be a part of Film Bazaar 2016,” Channe added.
Each years, hundreds of Indian and foreign delegates attend the event, where over 200 films from South Asia are pitched to sales agents, buyers, film festival programmers and financiers.
In the past, films like ‘Lunch Box’, ‘Margarita With A Straw’, ‘Chauthi Koot’, ‘Ship of Theseus’, ‘Titli’ and ‘Court’ have through one or more programmes of the Bazaar.
