Alert: Viral crocodile rescue video from Dadar Mohalla in Chiplun, not Dadar in Mumbai

A video of a crocodile being rescued from a drain in ‘Dadar’ is going viral on social media with misleading titles. Although the video is actually of a recent rescue attempt in Maharashtra, it is not from Mumbai.
The video shows a 4-ft-long reptile being rescued by forest department officials.

As of Monday, several such videos have made their way on platforms like Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, etc while being wrongly attributed to Dadar in Mumbai.
The videos are being circulated on social media platforms with titles like ‘Crocodile found in main road gutter in Dadar Mumbai’ and ‘Crocodile spotted and captured in Dadar Mumbai’, among others.

However, the video not from Mumbai.
The footage is actually of a rescue operation in Dadar Mohalla of Chiplun city in Ratnagiri on Saturday, July 27, where the crocodile seemingly made its way to the drain due to the overflowing of Vahishti river.
After officials were alerted, a team was dispatched to the spot and following an hour-long operation, the crocodile was safely rescued by forest officials and released into its natural habitat.

The recent spell of incessant rainfall displaced countless animals, forcing them to seek refuge in crowded areas.
In the most recent case, a stray cow entered the lecture hall of IIT-Bombay in Powai and disrupted an ongoing session. It likely entered the building for shelter and unwittingly strayed inside a lecture hall, students speculated.
