A 35-year-old biker was arrested after he allegedly manhandled a traffic cop who stopped him for signal jumping at Vakola earlier this week.

According to reports, constable Sonavane (55) was stationed at Raza junction on Santacruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR) around 6:30 pm on Tuesday when he spotted a biker jumping the Noori Masjid signal.

When Sonavane signalled the biker to stop, he tried to evade him and flee. However, the constable chased after him and managed to apprehend him.

Soon, an argument broke out between the constable and biker, Mehboob Khan, during which the latter reportedly abused and manhandled Sonavane. The pillion rider tried to caution Khan against pushing the constable, but he paid no heed.

After the altercation ended, Sonavane was taken to V N Desai Hospital in Santacruz for a check-up.

Khan, meanwhile, was apprehended and taken to Vakola police station, where he was booked under sections 353, 332 and 504 of Indian Penal Code.
