SRK’s ‘FAN’ gets a Jabra opening, claims title of biggest opener of 2016
Critics and audiences have been gushing over SRK’s ‘FAN’ since the very first screening. And the rewards aren’t limited to just positive reviews, the movie has also opened big at the box office.
In the movie, SRK essays the roles of both – Bollywood actor Aryan Khanna and his lookalike fan Gaurav. The revenge thriller revolves around a die-hard fan’s transformation into the star’s nemesis.
While Bollywood thrillers seldom open at par with other genres, the studio made sure that wasn’t the case by releasing the movie in over 3,500 screens across the nation. In addition to the domestic screens, the studio also released the movie in over 1,100 screens worldwide to piggyback on SRK’s global fan following.
As a result, FAN raked in over Rs. 20 crore on Friday from the domestic release alone.
With an opening of Rs. 20 crore, it beat Akshay Kumar’s Airlift to claim the title of the year’s biggest opener. The latter had collected Rs. 12.3 crore on its opening day.
SRK’s last movie, Dilwale, had also received a similar opening. But, Dilwale’s opening weekend collections subsided on the second and third day owing to its feeble word-of-mouth publicity. In case of FAN, however, the audience has reacted positively and will only help the movie claim a solid weekend collection.
