BMC to invest almost 4 crore for a new football ground in Malad
In a bid to promote football in the maximum city, the civic body has decided to develop the plot near D-Mart at Malad west Link Road into a football ground.
Yuva Sena Chief Aditya Thackeray, a self-confessed football lover, had always wanted to develop a football ground. After being nominated as the chairman of Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) three years back, Thackeray had vowed to create a new ground in the city.
After discussing the proposal with the BMC, the civic body is planning to allot the contract to M/s Reliable Enterprises at the cost of Rs 3.94 crore. The proposal will be placed before the civic standing committee for approval on Wednesday.
Along with the creation of a new ground, the proposed work also includes a garden, water fountains, water-proofing, paver blocks etc. Once allocated, the project will take 12 months to complete.
On a separate note, the civic body has decided to boost sports activity in the city by using open spaces to develop playgrounds and sports cells, with a centre in each ward.
