Dalit groups protest in Chembur, traffic affected
Dalit groups staged a major protest in Chembur on Tuesday afternoon in the wake of the Bhima-Koregaon violence, during which Dalits were allegedly attacked by members of the Maratha community.
The protestors staged a rail roko near Govandi-Chembur around noon, which affected the movement of trains on the harbour line. They also staged a raasta-roko near Amar Mahal junction on Sion-Panvel highway.
As of publishing this, rail services have resumed and traffic on Eastern Express Highway has normalised. However, traffic at Chembur naka is still affected.
Protestors also forced business owners to shut shops, pelted stones and damaged vehicles, including a BEST bus, earlier in the day. However, no casualties were reported.
