Mumbai police busts high-profile gambling racket, arrests 42 from 5-star hotel
The Mumbai Crime Branch on Tuesday busted a high-profile gambling racket in the city and arrested 42 businessmen from Sahara Star hotel in connection with illegal gambling.
A team of more than two dozen officers of the Mumbai Crime Branch reportedly raided Sahara Star hotel, located near the domestic airport, last night on the basis of specific intelligence.
The sleuths had been informed that a group of high profile businessmen had booked seven rooms in the hotel for gambling.
During the raid, officials arrested 42 businessmen – five of whom were well-known bookies – for illegal gambling. In addition, they also recovered Rs 16 lakh cash and one lakh worth of imported whiskey from their possession.

The culprits, who were reportedly playing flush or ‘teen patti’, were booked under relevant sections of the gambling act, a bailable offense.
The arrest comes days after 29 people were arrested for their alleged involvement in the international ‘matka’ operation in Goa’s Candolim. The culprits were arrested following a raid on the ‘Bombay Bazar Matka’.
Prior to this, the arrest of bookie Sonu Jalan had unearthed a major IPL betting racket. During the investigation, the bookie had named several top businessmen and Bollywood personalities as clients.
