A four-wheeler went up in flames on the Eastern Express Highway in Thane on Saturday evening.
According to preliminary information, the incident took place around 7:30 pm opposite Viviana Mall, located next to Jupiter Hospital on the EEH in Thane West.
The Maruti Ritz (MH-05-CM-0172) was travelling on the south-bound lane towards Mulund when the vehicle caught fire.
It’s owner, Yogesh Boraghade, swerved to the right side lane after crossing the pedestrian bridge and managed to get out of the vehicle before the flames engulfed the entire car. Fire officials were alerted about the mishap immediately after.
A fire engine and rescue vehicle were pressed into service and the blaze was brought under control in minutes. Officials from Thane’s Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) and local police also reached the spot to control the situation.
The mishap did not result in any casualties. The vehicle, however, was completely gutted in the blaze.
The cause of the fire is not known as of publishing this report.
The incident led to minor traffic snarls, which have eased now.
