Businessman arrested for impersonating cop at Andheri club
In a bizarre case, a Dubai-based businessman was arrested from Andheri Recreation Club on Saturday for impersonating a police inspector.
According to reports, the incident took place on February 23 when the accused, Ishwar Adwani, arrived at the club in the garb of a cop. The club is located at Dadabhai Road in Andheri (W).
Later that night, he got into an argument with one of the club members, which prompted the management to alert authorities.
In his complaint to the police, Bharat Parekh alleged that Adwani loitering around the reception area when he arrived at the club that night. When Parekh noticed that Adwani was continuously staring at him, he questioned him about the same.
Adwani, however, took offence to the question and told Parekh that he was a cop and could stare at anyone. In no time, the two got into a verbal spat over the matter.
When some of the staffers tried to intervene, Adwani threatened them with dire consequences. To prevent the matter from escalating further, the club management alerted the police control room.
Shortly after, officials from DN Nagar police station arrived at the spot. When Adwani failed to prove his association with the law enforcement agency, he was detained.
The accused was later booked for impersonating a public servant and placed under arrest. He was produced before Bandra court on Sunday and subsequently released on Rs 10,000 bail.
