Constable suspended for driving drunk on Western Express Highway

A police constable, who was arrested for driving drunk on the Western Express Highway last week, was suspended from duty on Tuesday.
According to officials, constable Ankush Sanap, arrested for drunken driving while on duty, was suspended till impending enquiry. He is attached to the MHB colony police station in suburban Borivali.
A few locals spotted Sanap driving a police mobile van in a zigzag manner on the Western Express Highway near a temple in suburban Kandivali around 11:30 pm Sunday night.
They later informed the police who arrived at the spot and apprehended the constable. He was alone in the vehicle.
A breathalyser test was conducted at the police station, proving that the constable was driving under the influence of alcohol.
Following which, Sanap was booked under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act and the Maharashtra Prohibition Act.
Based on the blood alcohol level, offenders can face upto 2 years in jail and a fine. Repeat offenders, on the other hand, may be jailed for 4 years.
A probe into the incident is currently underway.
