Name upcoming Dadar metro station as ‘Shiv Sena Bhavan’: Sena MP
After spearheading the cause of renaming Mumbai’s landmarks with colonial names, a Shiv Sena MP has demanded that the upcoming Metro station at Dadar be named after the party’s headquarters, Shiv Sena Bhavan.
Located on Ram Ganesh Gadkari Chowk, the Shiv Sena Bhavan houses the central office of the party.
The demand was made in writing to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis by Rajya Sabha member Anil Desai, who pointed out that both Western Railway and Central Railway already have stations named as Dadar in the area.
The MP argued that since there were already two stations named Dadar, there was no need of naming the third one, on the Metro-3 line (Colaba-Bandra-Seepz), also as Dadar.
“The metro station concerned is coming up near the historic structure ‘Shiv Sena Bhavan’ constructed by late party chief Balasaheb Thackeray. Bus stops near it are also known as ‘Shiv Sena Bhavan’,” Desai said in the letter.
He observed that some stations on the metro line, such as the Science Museum, Siddhivinayak and Shitaladevi, were named based on their proximity to these places.
“Considering these aspects, I insist that Dadar metro station is renamed as Shiv Sena Bhavan,” Desai said.
In the past, Sena has vehemently pursued the cause of renaming old structures or stations with colonial names to their local counterparts.
