Student, 2 peons of Santacruz college arrested for tampering answer sheets
A post-graduate student and two peons of a Santacruz-based private college were arrested on Monday for their alleged involvement in an answer sheet tampering case.
According to officials, Sayyed Nizamuddin (22) had enrolled for the two-year MSc (Sustainable Development and Environment Management) course at Garware Institute Of Career Education & Development (GICED) in Kalina, Santacruz.
While appearing for an ATKT exam on October 8, he submitted a blank answer sheet. Later, peons Sandeep Palkar and Sangmesh Kamble snuck his answer sheet from the registrar’s office and handed over to him.
After answering the questions, Nizamuddin returned the filled answer sheet to the peons, who put it back in the locker.
The matter came to light when college officials saw the office door unlocked on Monday. Upon checking the locker, they found that the seal on the stack of answer sheets was broken.
The CCTV footage of the premises showed the two peons leaving the office with the answer sheet and keeping it back shortly after.
College authorities alerted BKC police about the incident, following which both peons and the student were placed under arrest.
“We are awaiting the police report. The paper which was tampered with was from the third-semester supplementary exam (for ATKT students) of MSc. We will set up a committee to conduct an internal inquiry and decide on the action,” Medha Tapiawala, in charge of GICED, told The Times of India.
The peons were appointed to the autonomous institute on a contractual basis, she added.
