Thane Police finds 2 tonnes of party drug hidden in drums at Solapur factory
A week after the Thane police recovered 18 tonnes of ephedrine from a Solapur factory, its biggest drug heist till date, two more tonnes of methamphetamine was found hidden in drums at the same location.
However, the three accused – Kamlesh Rathod, Jay Solankhi and Punit – who are believed to be masterminds behind the cartel remain, on still the run.
A drug supplier to posh parties in Mumbai, Punit once visited the Avon Lifesciences factory after it was shut down following workers’ strike. Soon he realized the worth of the huge stock of ephedrine at the factory, and then got in touch with Rathod and Solankhi as he knew about their drug business in Gujarat.
The trio would process the chemical in an open area behind the factory, and then brought it to Mumbai. The drug was later sent to Ahmedabad from where smuggled it out of the country, especially to European nations.
