Video: Massive fire breaks out in Arab Galli in Kamathipura near Grant Road
A major fire broke out in Kamathipura area of South Mumbai on Saturday afternoon.
The incident took place around 2 pm in a ground plus one structure in lane number 1 of Arab Galli in Kamathipura near Grant Road.
According to preliminary information, the ground floor of the structure houses a Ayesha Restaurant. Two fire tenders arrived at the spot within minutes and firefighting is still underway.
As of 3 pm, the exact cause of fire or number of casualties are not known.
Meanwhile, the neighboring shops have been evacuated and traffic from both sides of the lane has been diverted.
The incident occurred barely 24 hours after a massive blaze engulfed dozens of furniture shops in a market at Ghaswala Compound on Relief Road in Oshiwara. The fire department, with the help of 16 fire engines and 12 water tankers, took almost 3 hours to douse the blaze.
Till now, one person has been reported dead and several others injured. The incident was caused due to a CNG cylinder blast.
Further details are awaited.
Update: The blaze was caused due to a short circuit in the first floor godown and is currently under control. No casualties were reported due to the incident.
