Actress gets slammed for anti-LGBT comments in wake of Orlando killings
As the world is slowly trying to come to terms with the Orlando massacre, a small time Bollywood actress has sparked controversy with her ill-timed and insensitive comments about the incident.
US-born Omar Mateen gunned down 49 people on Sunday at a gay nightclub in Orlando. The attack has been deemed as the deadliest mass shooting in the United States and the nation’s worst terror attack since 9/11.
While the world united in offering condolences to the family of the deceased, actress Kavita Radheshyam took to her social media account and posted a rather inappropriate message. The actress, who was last seen in ‘Main Hoon Rajinikanth’, posted a message that read, “Felt Very Sad About #OrlandoShooting.. Aren’t #LGBT Against Nature? Whatever Is Against Nature, Shouldn’t Live..”
Kavita’s statement quickly garnered a lot of attention, with netizens slamming her for the downright insensitive and outright hateful statement.
Igor Scheurkogel, Asia Director of Mr Gay World, also responded to the starlet’s message. His post read,
But despite a slew of negative comments and criticism, the actress defended her actions by claiming, “I am sad about the killings but I am against gays and lesbians. Their behaviour is not natural and it spreads HIV, AIDS and other STDs. This is Hindustan and not Gayisthan. If I was doing all this for publicity, I would have stripped again. This is what I feel and I am expressing my views freely”.
Since many termed her statement as a ‘publicity’ gimmick, she added, “Three years back i had already voiced my support in favor of IPC Law 377, Was I planning this Publicity from last three years? UK’s No.1 Tabloid tagged me as India’s Kim Kardashian. I don’t think I need any Publicity here. I have just voiced my opinion. Most of the Celebrities who are HIV infected are either Gay or Bisexual, I want my haters to do a small research.”
Her post was littered with comments like:
@actresskavita So by that logic when Child Marriage and Sati was not abolished, it was obviously the right thing to do? What a retard!
