Drunk 28-year-old injures 5 people, damages 3 cars in Kalyan
On Sunday night, a 28-year-old, who was driving in a highly inebriated state, lost control of his car and knocked down 5 pedestrians on a busy road in Indira Nagar, Kalyan.
The accused, identified as Swapnil Bhosle, was drinking with his friends at a bar in Kalyan. After having a gala time, when the group decided to head home, Bhosle volunteered to drive and got behind the wheels.
After covering a distance of roughly 4 kms from the bar, Bhosle lost control of the car. He first hit 5 pedestrians on a busy road and then rammed the Honda Accord into three parked vehicles.
Local residents and passersby came to Bhosle’s rescue, pulling him and his friends out of the wrecked car. Locals claim that Bhosle was so drunk that he could barely stand. Moreover, instead of being sorry of his act, he started abusing and threatening people after the incident.
Locals immediately called for ambulance and alerted the police. Officials of the MFC police station arrested Bhosle and sent his blood sample to a public hospital for an alcohol test.
After the preliminary test reports confirmed that Bhosle was driving under influence, an FIR under relevant sections of the IPC and Motor Vehicle Act was registered against him.
The 5 pedestrians that were hit in the accident sustained severe injuries and are undergoing treatment in hospitals. A 45-year-old victim, Baby Gathe, underwent two surgeries at Vatsalya Hospital during which doctors inserted a metal rod in one of her limbs.
