In welcome news for commuters, the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply & Transport (BEST) launched its first bus service on the recently inaugurated BKC-Chunabhatti flyover from Friday.

BEST has changed the path of route number 473, which runs from Mahul Village to Bandra Bus Station (West). Till now, buses on the route would travel via Sion and Dharavi – both of which were perennially congested.

Going forward, buses on route number 473 will take the 1.6 km BKC-Chunabhatti flyover after crossing Everard Nagar bus stop and travel to Kalanagar via BKC. The change is expected to cut drastically cut down travel time of commuters travelling on the section.

According to a notification, the new route will pass through Kalanagar- Bharat Nagar – MMRDA pay-and-park – Bank of Baroda – Godrej BKC – Indian Oil – BKC Chunabhatti flyover – Everard Nagar and onwards to Mahul Village.

Details about route 473

The undertaking had earlier planned to start the route from Thursday but delayed it by a day due to technical reasons.

Meanwhile, a section of motorists and commuters are unhappy with the MMRDA’s decision to restrict the entry of two-wheelers and rickshaws on the flyover. Even auto unions have raised an issue with the decision to ban the entry of public use vehicles.

Mumbai Traffic Police, on whose suggestion their entry was disallowed, is likely to study traffic movement on the flyover for the next two weeks and take a call on whether two-wheelers and autos can be allowed on the connector.
