Mira Road family lands in flat below after their flooring collapses
In a bizarre incident earlier this week, three members of a family in Mira Road landed on the first floor of the building after the flooring of their second floor flat collapsed.
The victim family, Mohammed Shaikh, his pregnant wife Parveen Shaikh and their 11-year-old son, were observing fasts due to the holy month of Ramadan. After finishing their morning meal (sehri), the family laid out their mats on the floor and went to sleep again.
At around 6.45 am, the flooring of the room in which the family was sleeping collapsed and the family landed in the flat on the first floor. Fortunately, the lower flat was unoccupied and the Shaikh family did not sustain any major injuries. After a preliminary check up, even Parveen’s unborn baby was declared unharmed.
The incident occurred at the Matru Chaya apartment in Pooja Nagar area in Naya Nagar, Mira Road.
Earlier this year, a structural auditor appointed by the Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation (MBMC) had marked the building safe for occupancy and had issued a stability certificate for the same. The victim family has now demanded an action against the auditor.
Meanwhile, an accidental case has been registered by the Naya Nagar police.
