Railway employee jumps on track ahead of oncoming train at Kurla station, escapes unhurt
A railway employee had a miraculous escape on Sunday after he jumped onto the railway tracks at Kurla station and survived the ordeal as the train simply passed over him. The entire episode was caught on a nearby CCTV camera.
The incident took place at platform number 5 of Kurla station, which is used by Kalyan bound fast and out-station trains.
Around 4 pm, commuters waiting at the station were shocked to see a man climbing down the platform, walking towards the tracks and lying down between them in an alleged suicide attempt.
Even though some of them tried to shout out to him in utter disbelief, the fast approaching train made it difficult for anyone to rescue him.
However, after a tense few seconds, the long-distance train passed over him and bystanders were shocked to see the man getting up, seemingly unhurt.
As soon as the track was clear, those standing on a platform tried to coax him to return. The commotion caught the attention of RPF officials stationed at Kurla, who arrived at the spot and helped him to safety.
The man was later identified as Vishwas Bansode (42) from his railway employee card. Bansode was reportedly posted at the electrical department at Igatpuri and drunk at the time of the incident.
Since he was not in the right frame of mind, officials reached out to his family to take him home. A little later, his nephew arrived at the station and took the Kurla-resident home. Authorities are yet to confirm if they plan on taking any action against Bansode.
Meanwhile, the entire incident was caught on a CCTV camera installed at the platform.
